Long, long locks

British celebrity hairstylist Mark Hill reveals, “2014 is about mixing textures.” Kate Middleton is doing it the right way with her gorgeous long locks with romantic, loose curls at the end. While there is no doubt that short cuts are a hot trend this season, dare to be different with extra-long locks like Brenda Song. Her sleek, straight hair is decadent and eye catching! Another fun twist on the long-lock trend is by embracing your curl. Plenty of celebs, spend hours straightening their hair, instead follow Minnie Driver’s lead and keep your curls easy and natural.

Pretty, powerful pixies
“The modern pixie comes in many forms, from chunky and asymmetric to long and gracefully swepts,” shares Pyxie founder, Laura Dahl, “Technically, a pixie is simply a short, layered cut that lies close to the head, so creating nuance and character requires doing research and talking through your vision with your stylist.” Looking for something bold? Halle Berry add some long sexy bangs to her signature short ‘do. It was the cut wanted ‘round the world when Hollywood favorite, Jennifer Lawrence cut off her long locks and bared her new look at the Oscars. “More celebrities and, in turn, clients are asking for short cuts. But the pixie is still difficult to pull off because it only works for heart-shaped or oval faces. Ask your stylist to create long layers on top and beveling around the back,” shares Hill. By keeping the top long, Lawrence is able to mix up the style with plenty of options. Raphel Reboh, of Femme Coiffure Miami agrees that the longer version of the traditional pixie is a super hot look right now, “I do them mostly with a razor, which gives more movement and a soft look. Razor cuts also let you style hair in different ways to change up the look.”

Bold Color
While most people are looking for dimension and variation in their color, 2014 is the year of solid color. Josue Perez, celebrity stylist and Rowenta Beauty brand ambassador explains, “Everyone seems to go darker during the winter. For spring people are starting to transition to lighter colors.” Miley Cyrus is no exception, her pixie is looking bright and fresh now that it’s platinum blonde. Victoria Justice is rocking the single-tone color trend this season, too. After years of the “more-is-more” highlights trend, the solid dark look is flattering and sophisticated. With this trend, ombre is on its way out as celebs like Jessica Alba go with a more subtle and natural ombre effect.

Shaggy Crops
After years of long locks and bouncy curls, Taylor Swift looks gorgeous and grown up with her new, shorter ‘do. Dahl agrees, “With her flirty new bob, Taylor Swift looks chicer than ever,” as the sexy shoulder-skimming cut and sideswept bangs gives her a more sophisticated look. Busy-mom Jennifer Connelly loves the no fuss look of her shaggy, long bob because it’s the ultimate no-fuss look. Perez agrees that textured long bobs (lobs) are a serious trend this season, “More people are asking for mid-length styles. It’s popular because it’s lower-maintenance than a more structured cut, and with the right face frame and texture, it makes anyone look sexy.”
